What is THE NEX?

THE NEX is a free multiplayer first-person extraction shooter that runs in your web browser. You raid one of five worlds with or against other players, loot procedural weapons, fight bosses and extract to keep what you found.

Is THE NEX free to play?

Yes. THE NEX is completely free to play. The only purchase is an optional cosmetic Founder's Pack that changes how you look, never how strong you are.

Do I need to download anything?

No. THE NEX runs instantly in a modern web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Open thenex.world and press play.

Can I play THE NEX on mobile?

Yes. THE NEX supports phones and tablets with touch controls, as well as desktop with keyboard and mouse.

Does THE NEX support VR?

Yes. THE NEX can be played in VR headsets through the browser.

Is THE NEX multiplayer?

Yes. Raids are shared PvPvE: other players can team up with you or fight you. You can raid in a squad of up to four, duel other players 1v1 and play ranked duels. Solo play works too.

What is an extraction shooter?

An extraction shooter is a game where you enter a dangerous area, gather loot and must reach an extraction point to keep it. If you die before extracting, you lose what you were carrying. Escape from Tarkov and Dark and Darker are well-known examples; THE NEX brings the genre to the browser for free.

What happens when I die?

You lose the gear and loot you were carrying in that raid. Items stored in your bank in the hub are safe.

How long is a raid?

Each raid has a 12-minute timer. You can extract earlier, or take the Descent to a deeper depth for richer loot.

What worlds can I play?

Five: the neon Sprawl, the dark Crypts, the freezing Frost Abyss, the poisonous Overgrowth and the lava-filled Foundry. Each has its own creatures, bosses and survival mechanic. See the worlds.

Is THE NEX pay to win?

No. Purchases are cosmetic only. Weapons, credits and progression are earned by playing.

Do I need an account?

You can start playing right away. Creating a free account saves your progress in the cloud so you can play on any device.
